Gilberts Chowder House

Thrilled to find gluten free lobster stew (and haddock stew) here. Hardly any other GF options, but the stew was what I came for. It was divine. Similar to a bisque in taste but thinner consistency and tons of lobster chunks. Our server had celiac too and said she ate it all the time. My husband loved the clam chowder too, but certainly not GF. More GF options needed for me to give 5 stars, but I was happy to find this restaurant during our time in port (from our ship). Long line in the front, but we went to the back by the pier where you can seat yourself or wait for the next open table. Thankfully a few tables were open.

Very busy! And for a reason, Great food! Got to watch the staff in action while waiting for the food to arrive. Staff very attentive. If you don't know how to shell & clean a lobster, staff will assist you. I couldn't have the chowder as it contained gluten, but REALLY enjoyed the lobster. Food gets delivered by boat to the back of the building and hauled straight into the kitchens. It's fresh and fabulous.
