Great Wolf Lodge | Perryville

Summary: Recently my family of three (two adults, and a 15 year old boy) stayed at the Great Wolf lodge in Perryville MD. We met up with some relatives, a family of four (two adults a 14 year old boy and a 16 year old boy). Overall, we had a very good time and enjoyed our visit, the kids had an excellent time and it was a good way to spend a long weekend. Pros: The staff was all fantastic! Super friendly and helpful, had lots of great interactions with many of the employees over the weekend. Kids had plenty to do and enjoyed themselves! While it was definitely aimed at younger kids they enjoyed the water park, ropes course and arcade. They did not partake in the MagiQuest, Moonstone Mirror Maze, Bowling or Mini-Golf as they all seemed to be skewed at a younger crowd. Food was good (but pricey) and had more gluten free options than anticipated. We did the breakfast buffet for three of our days and enjoyed it quite a bit. Lots of variety and it had an omelet/egg station as well as a waffle station. Our family had a Grizzley suite and it was huge! Plenty of room for all seven of us to hang out in. All attractions were on one floor, so everything was easy to get to. While crowded and busy the lines were not bad in the waterpark for the slides. Unexpected bonus, on Saturday we received a text that we could extend our stay for $120 plus tax and fees. We were able to take them up on it and did so extending our stay by a night in the same room. Cons: The waterpark is loud! There is not a lot they can do about it I guess but the constant sound for an extended period was a little overwhelming. There is very little for adults to do. The water park has no hot tubs inside (one outside but this trip was in February, so it was closed) and a small bar at the restaurant. No lounge areas or any other sort of relaxing space to take a minute away from the craziness other than in your room. They could have a spa or adults only lounge area to give the parents a break and make more money. The Casino is very close but there are no walking paths to it. (The Casino itself is nothing to write home about, it’s fine but was a nice break from kids). No workout room, this is the first hotel I have stayed at in a long time that did not have at least some sort of exercise area with machines. Lack of food options. We ate at the buffet and the pizza place and both were good, but with the large size of the hotel the one restaurant seemed very inadequate. There are no restaurants near the hotel, the closest being in Port Deposit, a 15 to 210 minute drive. We saw a lot of food being delivered. We went out one night, ordered food another and the last night ordered pizza from the pizza place in the hotel. So, we were able to eat but the lack of other restaurants in the immediate vicinity seems like another lost opportunity. The room we stayed in was large but very bare boned. It just has a minifridge, and while every floor does have a shared microwave there are no microwaves in the rooms. Also for being a fairly new hotel lots of items seem to have a great deal of wear to them. Especially the bathroom doors.

I took my kids here for the first time ever. Everything is overpriced, but if you are looking at staying here you already know that. Great Wolf Lodge is best for kids under 10. Over 10, there are few activities they will enjoy and your kids over 13 or so will be bored out of their minds. It took us almost an HOUR to check in. We found the room to be unclean and the staff response to this was unacceptable. Most of the staff were pretty awesome. The food is okay, not awesome but not bad. There are a few but not enough gluten free or allergy friendly options. There is almost zero labeling of allergens and what is there is inconsistent. I had to ask four people if there were any gluten free options for breakfast, but eventually I found some. There is way too much alcohol being served here and not enough security guards to deal with the way adults behave when they have too much alcohol. Two adults were about to get physical in the lobby during an event and it felt very unsafe. The odor of marijuana persisted throughout the lobby as adults smoked various things directly outside the front doors. There were a LOT of unattended children under the age of 10 throughout the hotel at all times. Running up and down the halls, inside the activity areas, and at the restaurants. Would I come back? No. The activities and accommodations were not worth the price. We have been to Great Wolf Lodge in Virginia and it is a better choice.
