Special night. Celiac. We decided to go to Grosso. One of those places that, for people like me, is legendary. However, at 8:00 PM, the young waiter informs us that, sorry, the ovens weren't turned on when they were supposed to and that they won't be able to start making pizzas until 8:30 PM. But he offers us a drink and any starter that doesn't require an oven. We accept and go inside. Impossible to stay. Suffocating heat. We ask about the air conditioning, and he tells us it's been broken for months. In the middle of a declared heat wave, with civil protection services announcing a high temperature alert, the people at Grosso Napoletano expect us to eat in a place with a stone oven at 40 degrees. Not even the workers should be inside making pizzas.
The waiter, super friendly and attentive at all times, offers us a terrace. We accept (even in the heat) and order a beer and a water. Well, the beer, warm. But not warm from the fridge, it doesn't cool well, but warm from not having been in the fridge.
The table next to us orders sparkling water and is told they don't have any. Honestly, I don't know how the waiter held up so well and was able to apologize so much to everyone; but management should reconsider the restaurant's direction.
Personally, I doubt I'll ever return and, of course, I won't recommend it to anyone. You go there excitedly for a special dinner, to eat a gluten-free pizza, and the shock you get is tremendous. I would have preferred them to tell me they couldn't open due to a technical problem, rather than expect us to eat in 40-degree heat or on the terrace, with warm beer, and more than half an hour late. A real blowout for me.
