We came to Hacienda Real in Yorkville to celebrate a double birthday—mine and my dad’s—and unfortunately, the experience was disappointing from start to finish.
Despite noting gluten-free dietary restrictions in our reservation, no gluten-free menu was provided upon arrival. We had to ask multiple times before receiving it, and even then, one of the listed gluten-free desserts—the flan—was served with ice cream that contained strawberry cheesecake, which clearly isn’t gluten-free. This could’ve been a serious issue for someone with celiac disease or severe intolerance.
When we arrived, we waited 15 minutes with no update or acknowledgment about our table being ready, so we eventually went inside to check ourselves. It felt disorganized and unwelcoming.
Our server forgot to bring water even after we asked for it, and it wasn’t until someone else—who we assume was the water server—came by that we finally got refills. The molcajete dish we ordered had all the meat burnt at the bottom and was disappointingly shallow for the price.
There was also no mention of the birthdays we were celebrating, which we had noted in the reservation. And to top it all off, they forgot to bring the check—we waited another 15 minutes before finally being able to leave.
Overall, the service felt inattentive and the food didn’t make up for it. Definitely not the special experience we had hoped for considering I had come here before for Valentine’s Day and had a much better experience which we were hoping to have received today.
