Hapi Cafe & Restaurant Dromana

If I could leave 0 stars, I would. This was a very unpleasant experience for me and my friends. We stopped here after traveling for over 4 hours, hoping for a quick and enjoyable break, but it was anything but. First, we ordered coffees, and when they arrived, they were completely wrong. We sent them back and received another round, but the alternative milks were incorrect; they used full cream milk instead. As I am lactose intolerant, this made me extremely sick, resulting in a long trip to the bathroom. We then decided to order our food through the QR code to avoid further miscommunications with the waiter. However, this didn't help. When our food arrived, we asked which dish was gluten-free since my friend is coeliac. The waiter responded with uncertainty, saying she was "pretty sure" it was gluten-free but didn't know for sure. This lack of seriousness is unacceptable, as consuming gluten can make someone with coeliac disease very sick. All of our dishes were wrong. Not only was the gluten-free bread not gluten-free, but each dish also had errors. When we asked to speak to the manager, she never came. The waiter told us we could have our coffees for free, which we were never going to pay for due to the poor quality and wrong milk. We didn't receive an apology and overheard staff calling us "difficult." This experience was extremely disappointing. We were just looking for a nice breakfast, and for $30 per person for eggs and bacon, we expected the dietary requirements to be met as per the menu.

Popped in around 1145am on a Sunday morning. Place was pretty full but the vibe was pretty good. Has some 80s music playing the whole time which is always a hit for me. Ordered a latte and iced chai for drinks and a Big Brekky and The Moroccan for food. When the food came out around 30 minutes later I asked where our drinks were. I started to get a little frustrated as we started watching take away coffees and other dine in customers receive their orders before us when they ordered after us. The lad said he would check but got tied up with new customers and not sure he got to ask. They were evidently short staffed, but were doing the best they could. I asked him again 10 mins later and he said he would go and check again. Still nothing. Finally I asked a lady and she chased it up. She brought out the iced chai which was powdered when we asked for loose leaf, and the latte which came out and was not decaf. So both had to be remade. Mind you these came out after breakfast and we asked for take away now as we were leaving. The food was really great though. Both meals I couldn’t fault. With dairy and gluten free allergens they really catered to it and substituted items rather than just removing them. They were big and hearty and worth the money we paid, even if there was a 10% surcharge for a Sunday. The lad ended up giving us the coffees for free due to the muck around. Ended up being over an hour before we got them so I’m glad he did that. Overall I can tell that being short staffed is the only reason they made errors with orders. The food was great, they cater for all allergies really well, the coffee was eventually great, and the service lad was really good and only did his best. Missed orders are no fault of his own. So for that I think this is still a 5 star cafe and I highly recommend if you are in the area.
