As a loyal customer of about a year my review is after countless shopping sprees at Happier. In the first 6 months I thought that it elevated the neighborhood quality of life having organic kitchen on Canal st. The stuff, the cashiers all were so sweet, kind, excited. The feeling that something great is happening was in the air. Then it blew up on Instagram and became super trendy hot spot filled with fashion crowd. Prices jumped by 20%, the chef must have moved to their catering biz as Quality disappeared, consistency went out of the window. No one follows recipes, things look the same but flavor wise revolting. The store has a tel line but preferred to disconnect it for 6+ months and when they finally re connected the line it’s by chance or luck that the new inept management will pick it up. The organic gluten free refined sugar free bakery was replaced by popular main stream baked goods. The juice bar remains a hit or miss surprise. On Monday I’d be lucky to buy delicious soup and on Thursday the same soup is watered down 1:1 with barely any flavor nor body. Same with the entire prepared food bar. If you don’t catch it on time you are charged $25 a pound for 1/2 a lemon with your fish Red bell pepper $8.99 a pound ( $3.49 every other small grocery ) same with so many other items that seem like they sent someone to a near by shop to buy and mark up x 2.2 Yes at first it looked like the owners went to Erewhan took a video of all that’s on their shelves to order for their new store down to Erewhon Taco Tuesday that didn’t last, it lacked flavor. what was at the early days is long forgotten, I lost my hope for improvement so now I regard it as a joke. Sometimes funny but mostly not. I hope the shop will fold and Erewhon will take over and set the records straight - charge as you like but deliver goodness.
