Hawthorn Dining Room & Bar

My wife and I were there tonight for our 27th Anniversary, and frankly that was one of the nicest experiences we've had at a restaurant in quite some time. First off, the Manager who greeted us was extremely warm and congratulated us on our Anniversary, and led us to an excellent table. He told us all about their specialty cocktails, and was just super friendly. What a great beginning. Our waiter Peter was also excellent, and gave us a great history of the Hawthorn dining room. So refreshing to have a professional waiter who really cares about his profession and is warm and genuine. The room is beautifully decorated, with a historic and yet modern feel, sort of like a french bistro from the olden days. Cocktails were very nice, a great start to the meal. Food was great, especially the 14 oz Striploin for 2 with two sides. Wonderfully cooked, all the fat/gristle had been removed before being sliced, really tasty. An excellent Jus accompanied, I could have had it straight up in a glass it was so good. The mashed potatoes were excellent as one would expect, and the mushroom risotto was one of the best I've had, I could have eaten it as a main and I wouldn't have been disappointed. For dessert the restaurant was nice enough to send us the gluten free chocolate cake with blackberry sorbet. Outstanding, my wife (who is gluten free) will be returning just for that alone. All in, a really outstanding experience. I normally shy away from "hotel restaurants" but freely admit this one stands on its own against any high end restaurant in the city. We will be back.

Every dish was crafted with care, but the absolute highlight was their dairy-free, gluten-free chocolate cake—it was heavenly beyond words and continues to appear in my sweetest dreams! Service was gracious and genuinely attentive, making my special day feel truly special. If you’re seeking a beautiful space, mindful cuisine, and heartfelt hospitality, this place is pure magic.
