I live in Brooklyn, land of foodies and funky little shops, but I grew up in Central Jersey, so I was so excited to check out Heirloom Kitchen one weekend while visiting.
My boyfriend and I took a cooking class there (thanks to Chef Rohan Kamicheril of Brooklyn’s Tiffin Club - check them out, too!) and learned how to make dosas. Neilly was accomodating enough to make sure Rohan made traditional dosa batter, which is gluten-free, just for me and my dietary needs. It was so fun! We left with a folder full of information and recipes to make dosas on our own at home.
We had such a great time that we also attended Heirloom Kitchen's "farm dinner" the next night, an autumnal fete in an apple orchard, with hundreds of beautiful flowers and lights, perfectly paired wines, flavorful seasonal dishes, and impeccable service. The chef at the dinner also made sure to prepare my food gluten-free.
The store is sunny and airy, and the kitchen area is spotless and gorgeous. I bought myself a Swell bottle while I was there, and it's a prized possession. I could spend a long time poring over the kitchenware at Heirloom Kitchen.
I definitely want to take more cooking classes there!
