Heritage Barbecue

This is pure Texas style bbq and the brisket is fantastic. The brisket beans, slaw, and queso should be gluten free but I'd check with the restaurant first as I didn't have those. All the meats besides the sausage are gluten free and gave me no reaction.

I got up to order food and asked the guy helping us about gluten. He was very helpful and when he found it was for celiac he had someone come to talk to me, and he called in to the people preparing the food to clean off all surfaces and change gloves for me while I watched. He went through the menu with me to carefully go over all food options. I could eat exactly one type of meat (brisket) and no sauces. They brought it out to me in a separate, covered tray. I looked around at everyone eating all their variety of delicious food that I couldn’t eat and felt like if I tried to talk I would start crying so I avoided eye contact and slowly ate my piece of brisket. The owner came over to ask me how I felt about their food and when he saw I only had a piece of brisket he talked me through some other options and brought out some nachos and coleslaw, on the house. Great people.
