Highfield Garden World

It's always nice to visit this garden centre. Had my elderly father with us, but at 1145 on a Sunday, all the disabled spaces were already filled. Saw many elderly folk with mobility aids inside, so maybe more disabled spaces would be helpful. Queued in the cafe for scones and tea. Great selection of scones, both large 'sharing' scones and more ordinary sized, all priced accordingly. I had a giant lemon and blueberry sharing scone all to myself. Dad wrapped half his giant cheese n chilli scone to take home for later. We had 3 butter pats for each big scone which was perfect. The cake selection was huge with fresh cream cakes in a fridge too. Wondered what giggle cake was. Our daughter was not with us today. As a coeliac with lactose intolerance she would have very limited choice of cakes. Great that these are displayed separately, but they all seem to be bought in tray bake style, a vast contrast to the wonderful cake choice for those lucky to have no dietary requirements. The food shop has vegan, gluten and sugar free sections which is good. Spotted a gluten and lactose free battenburg.. 👍

Extremely poor selection of gluten free cakes compared with other garden centres. Coeliac disease is not a lifestyle choice, it is an autoimmune disease!
