My partner and I showed up to Hook last night for our date night dinner. We saw they had fish tacos on special so we decided to sit down. There were about 3 tables outside with other customers and a couple inside. Two servers were working and it seemed very quiet. When we were seated we waited to be greeted for about half an hour which was a letdown. When we finally ordered we went for the $17 tequila prawns. There was a grand total of 5 average tasting prawns sitting in a strange sour soupy sauce. We also ordered a glass of wine and the “fallen apples” mocktail. The wine was very bland but the cinnamon drink was very nice. As someone with Celiac, I was impressed with the waitress handling my allergy and helping me order the tacos, however when we received the tacos they were very gross. The fish has a burnt flavour and looked quite unappetizing. It was very bland and mushy on the inside of the strange burnt outside. To compensate, they seemed to drench the entire taco in an acrid sauce that tasted like battery acid. The side salad wasn’t much better. Usually I prefer more than less dressing on my salad, but it was sopping wet and inedible. The fries though were supposedly very delicious according to my partner who could eat them. Overall I wouldn’t recommend these dishes except for the one apple mocktail. Very disappointed for an $80 meal. The servers apologized for serving us late and we know the food is not in their control. I believe this may be more of a management or kitchen issue.
