This was our second visit to the imperial city. After a particularly pleasant first stay, we decided to repeat it shortly before the end of our vacation.
What we particularly liked about this hotel:
- The hotel is incredibly beautifully furnished, modern, yet Black Forest motifs can be found everywhere.
- The hotel is well located, right in the heart of the old town.
- The breakfast not only offers an incredibly wide selection, but is consistently of excellent quality. I highly recommend booking a stay with breakfast! We particularly liked the fact that juices can be freshly squeezed, as well as the homemade (incredibly delicious) jams and waffles.
- My celiac disease was taken into account with great care; especially on my first visit, the owner explained to me exactly how my food was prepared, which gave me peace of mind.
- Overall, the staff is very friendly, but we were particularly impressed by a young, blonde employee (our bill said we were served by Martyna?): A consistently pleasant, polite, responsive, and particularly courteous young lady! We also noticed her for her good memory and her good organization – incredibly great! You'd love to have people like that around you 24/7!
Why we still couldn't give her 5 stars:
1. The cleanliness of the pool and especially the whirlpool during our entire second stay (dirty water surface, lots of dead flies, and dirty, brown whirlpool edges that looked like skin residue). I would like the whirlpool to be cleaned more thoroughly so we can use it with a clear conscience.
2. The welcome drink issue: After our first stay, we noticed that our reservation actually mentioned a welcome drink, but we never received it. This drink was also included in our second reservation, but we didn't receive it either at check-in or after check-in. When we asked the staff that evening how the welcome drink actually worked, we were told that the receptionist knew who got one and who didn't and distributed them. But now it's too late, as they can't be served after 6 p.m. Since this was a mistake on the part of the receptionist, they gave us one anyway and apologized. What we didn't like: Even if this was admittedly the receptionist's mistake, there's no "but" in the apology! Both the waitress and the receptionist, however, added "but it's already after 6 p.m. and they don't actually have it anymore," ultimately making us feel like we had made the mistake.
Since we didn't receive a welcome drink the first time, even though it was included in our reservation, I wish the hotel would take a proactive approach: As a guest, you shouldn't have to ask yourself where the welcome drink is, especially during the stress of checking in and unpacking—and then please ask before 6 p.m. From other hotels, we're used to the situation where this drink is either waiting for us in the room or we're asked directly upon check-in where we want it. Perhaps that would also be an idea for the Reichenstadt?
Our conclusion: The two points we described that we didn't like so much can certainly be quickly addressed by a hotel as well-positioned as the Reichsstadt. However, I would like to highlight the positive aspects at this point and thank you for a pleasant stay! We would recommend the hotel!
