Interstellar BBQ

Update: still amazing bbq that made it on the top 50 list. Our friends from Canada loved it. We waited almost 2 hours in line and were happy to get great service from Christian once we got to the counter. There are options to order drinks while you stand in line. Just go through the doors to the right. It’s mostly shade, with fans, and free cold water in a Yeti. Bathrooms are available too. The chimichurri on short ribs is epic. Mouth explosive flavor. The brisket is smoky with amazing crust. My son was disappointed that they took the frito pie off the menu. It’s replaced with a mushroom vegan option. They were so nice to make him a version with brisket and sauce, toppings, etc. The lamb shoulder is delicious. It is similar to pulled pork, with a subtle lamb flavor. Not too strong. The gf and df sides are the zucchini and tomato, slaw, and potato salad. The only meat with gluten is the turkey that marinates in beer. Some of the sauces have gluten and the ingredients are available on the bottle. Be sure to request your complimentary beans at the checkout register. They taste great with meat chunks and basil. Go to the area with paper for your “plates” that are on the paper that you can also use to wrap your meat for to go in the paper bags. Previous review: Our relatives from TN said it’s the best bbq they’ve ever had! Just ask Elon Musk. Anything with a rocket on it has his stamp of approval. You can grab drinks in the bar area to have while in line (doors to the far right and bar to the far right). Enjoyed Topo Chico. It’s a stand in line, order at the counter, then sit type of place. Plenty of seating. Indoor and outdoor with shade. Fans while in line. MHO: Amazing brisket…melt in your mouth juicy. The ribs are so good. Be sure to get there at opening or before to get meat before it’s gone. On Sunday’s they have unique dishes if you want to try something new. GF & DF meat except for the turkey (beer brine). The tomato zucchini salad & jalapeno slaw are GF & DF. Tried the melon Fresca and it was refreshing! Many thanks to the awesome staff! Great experience.

I live down the road from the #2 best barbeque joint in Texas. The food is so worth it...and they have FREE, complimentary beer (I don't drink Lonestar...but, hey...free)! Funny that this used to be my favorite sandwich place in Austin when I first moved here. It's the same owner. He got bored of making sandwiches and decided to start making barbeque instead. I was not impressed when they first opened. I went back recently and the menu has changed a lot. The meats taste exemplary and they brought back my favorite gouda mac-n-cheese from the old restaurant (Noble Pig Sandwiches, I still miss my duck pastrami, though). Anyone visiting this area should definitely give Interstellar Barbeque a try. It's good stuff. Favorites: Brisket, Glazed Pork Belly, the sausage is the best I've ever had ANYWHERE Gluten-Free Options: YES! Almost everything on the menu is gluten-free except for the Tipsy Turkey (since it's brined with beer), and the mac-n-cheese Pricey: It can be Outdoor Seating: Yes Lines: Long Parking: Yes Bathrooms Clean: Yes Other: Sells out frequently so get there early
