Iron Rail Brewing

Came to Topeka for my wife’s surgery, stayed for the brisket Mac and Chee with brisket and an old fashioned. The drink was a bit too sweet but still made well enough. Food was also very good and the brisket smoke flavor was on par. It was well smoked and good meat. They offer a gluten free menu but my wife got the pork sammy without the bun. The pork was done really well too. Pickles might have been homemade, kinda gave me that vibe. Their BBQ sauce compliments well. Sweet but not thick, perfect for savory meat. If I lived closer I’d go more often, server was excellent. 5 stars because it was what I was hoping, price point and relaxed atmosphere.

Went there today for lunch. Second lunch visit since opening. Bad news was, both times there, I ordered collard greens as a side but they were all sold out and waiter had to come back after a while to inform and pick an alternate side. Secondly, a coworker ordered sandwich with gluten free bun and was told after a long 30 minute wait that they were out of GF buns. When a smoked turkey sandwich comes out with no bun, looks pretty sad. Took over 35 minutes to get food after ordering. Facility offered no concessions for their shortcomings. Overall a bad experience. On a good note, the food we did get was pretty good. I had salad and two meat plate with brisket and jalapeno cheese sausage...both meats very good. Have not tried the beer yet so not able to rate. Overall, nice place, good food, but they need to significantly improve customer service. Food is a little pricey too. Waiter friendly and appropriately apologetic. He still got tipped.
