I had my birthday here when I was two. I started working here when I was 14. I love this place, and Phil (the owner) has been a friend to our family since before I was born. I'll admit, the pizza is definitely a hit or miss for most people-- you either love extra cheesy extra toppings, usually pretty dang greasy (in a decadent way) pizza, or you don't. But after you've gone there more than once, you'll be able to tell the waitresses what you do and don't want.
While it doesn't specify on your menu, they will customize your pizza however you want. You can request light sauce, no sauce, extra sauce, no cheese (yes I've made a pizza there without cheese), every topping known to man, there's gluten free options too. I've had a customer come in with their own lactose free cheese, and we gladly baked her pizza with it. P.S., they make hella cute heart-shaped pizzas on and around valentines day.
The employees there are probably like 90% teenagers from high school, so please cut them some slack. It's most likely their first job ever (I know it was mine). The good thing about this is that the environment is always energetic, and the kids who work there connect with the customers very often, because often times they know the customers. It's a great place for kids to hangout because of this, but it's also a very family friendly environment. The employees will get to know you the more you go.
Also, this restaurant transforms during lunch hours. They'll serve soups, sandwiches (god I love the swiss ham and cheese), Q pizzas, actual salads that aren't just caesar salads, etc. It's really great.
Overall, the best restaurant in Montevideo by a long run. Foods made there are made with a lot of heart. It's also 100% unique from the other Jake's Pizzas around Minnesota.
