I have come to rely on the Just Foods Co-Op – Northfield for much of my groceries. We value supporting local, organic, and naturally sourced foods. For its retail space, it is quite remarkable how efficiently they stock my preferred selection of fresh produce, many artisan pieces of cheese, local and safe meats, as well as organic dairy products, gluten-free products, and items that are ideal for guests with lactose intolerance. At times we’ve been able to purchase Lactose-free cottage cheese, sour cream, and cream cheese – which makes it so easy when I have family in town as guests.
They do a great job of keeping the hot bar stocked as well as salads, wraps, sandwiches, and soups to go. I still recommend going on the early side of lunch and dinner, as I’ve seen groups of students come in and really load up (maybe for a party or something). Over Christmas and the New Year, they have stocked the award-winning Welsh Snowdonia Cheeses made in the UK. My favorites by far are "Vintage Red Leicester" and the Extra Sharp Cheddar.
We love seeing its strong volunteer base and how many locals consistently shop here. I drive from Farmington because they often have items that I want and cannot find elsewhere. Baked items, like scones and doughnuts, are brought in from a local bakery and are typically a day old. They have been great in taking my requests for adding an item, too.
The Deli staff are knowledgeable and helpful. Often, if not too busy, they have come around to show me an item on the shelf or in the cooler that they recommend for my meal plan. I’ve come to trust their opinion. They have a large parking lot. The new renovation makes shopping aisle spaces easy to navigate with shopping carts.
