Karen's Gluten Free Bakeshop

When I tell you that this is the best bakery I’ve ever been to, I’m not exaggerating. We didn’t even mean to come here. It was by pure chance. We were stopping to get some coffee as we had been up early and driving all day as we headed through Jerome and Sedona on a trek towards the Grand Canyon. Everywhere we stopped at was out of coffee or only had espresso (I didn’t want espresso- yes I’m picky). We wandered into Karen’s and were instantly greeted by the cheery atmosphere, delicious aromas and beautifully displayed baked goods. Unfortunately for me, all they had was espresso coffee (this may have only been that day- you might want to check if they have it- but I was feeling snacky and decided to split a naughty donut with my love. We ordered a chocolate donut. As I bit into the most delicious thing I’ve ever tasted, I looked at my partner and said OH.MAGAH. 😳🤤THEN!! I found out that all the donuts including the one I was eating were gluten free! And DAIRY free! I’ve had gluten free things before and they didn’t taste like this! I’ve had dairy free things before and they didn’t taste like this. If I lived in this area I would not only walk but I’d RUN to this shop any time I had a family gathering so that they wouldn’t have to put up with my attempts at providing a dessert. The ship owner (I assume her name is Karen 😅) was so super nice and helpful. If I’m ever in the area again, I will definitely visit, and very much suggest that you try it out!

A Sweet Spot for Celiacs—Tasty, Thoughtful, and Friendly We had a lovely experience at Karen’s Gluten Free Bake Shop. The staff was friendly and welcoming from the moment we walked in. I had a question about the apple fiber in their sandwich bread and while they didn’t have a detailed answer about its purpose, the bread itself spoke volumes—super soft and delicious, which is such a treat for gluten-free bread! The chicken salad sandwich was top notch, and the cupcakes were packed with flavor—rich, moist, and satisfying. I also tried the espresso cake; the taste was great, though the texture was a bit dry and grainy for my preference. Overall, it’s amazing to have a dedicated gluten-free spot like this that caters to both locals and visitors with celiac disease. Wonderful job by Karen and her team—thank you for making safe and tasty treats that don’t compromise on quality!
