My family and I have been to Karma Sushi on multiple occasions and always been very impressed and satisfied. They have recently introduced a new menu. The previous menu had quite a few gluten-free options and this new menu doesn't seem to have nearly as many. In fact, one of the items is marked gluten free but was tempura fried which is not gluten free. Our server said that he could have that made gluten free anyways but when the roll came out it was still deep fried in tempura. That was order mistake #1 for our evening. We put in our order and our food started coming out. It did not come out all at one time which is to be expected with a place that has a sushi bar but my son and my husband were done eating before my daughter and I even got our sushi rolls. Mistake #2 for the evening happened when they brought us the completely wrong roll for my daughter and even though our server knew it was the wrong roll (even presented it as a spicy tuna roll when we ordered a tekka maki-thin role), he tried to play it off like it was the right one before I corrected him.
While our server was nice, he was not great as a server. He definitely struggled with getting our order correct, did not try terribly hard to make sure everything was made right, we were offered no compense for any of the mistakes and we had to ask three times for a to-go container. We finally asked the hostess because our server never got us one (we even watched him walk by the to to go containers several times). It took 15 minutes after asking for our check to actually get it.
We are a very low key group and tend to give lots of grace but in this situation I could not in good conscience, even leave our server a tip more than 17%.
Overall, the experience was underwhelming and frustrating. We may give Karma Sushi another try just because we previously have had good experiences but if this is any indication of what we can expect of their new space and menu, one shot is all we'll give.
