I had a horrible experience last night for my husband's birthday with a group of 6.
A few months ago I sent an email to confirm they catered for coeliacs, which I always do at a new place. My reply was:
'Yes we can, make the staff aware on the day, no issues!"
The menu had heaps of meals marked with a wheat symbol and line through it, saying GF.
Went up to order and when i mentioned coeliac, I was told by 2 staff, "no we can't cater for coeliacs".
I asked what can i have and I was told nothing...
Asked for the manager and explained my email etc. His reply was the kitchen is too small to cater for coeliacs!
It was the attitude that was most upsetting.
I will send an email wth some education on the disease to hopefully help the next person.
1 in 70 Australians are coeliacs and it doesnt take much to offer a cheese platter or something to be inclusive.
