One of the best dining experiences I’ve had in a long time.
I’d been eyeing off KILN for ages — every time I walked past I’d think, I’ve got to try that place. Finally went with a group of friends and it absolutely lived up to the hype.
One of the biggest drawcards for me was the gluten-free offering — not just a couple of dishes, but a proper separate menu. As someone who’s gluten intolerant, this gave us so much confidence. It’s clear they take dietary needs seriously, and the options were exciting, not just an afterthought.
We started with oysters, served with a green chilli and white pepper dressing — super fresh, beautifully balanced. The gluten-free bread with whipped butter was also a great start. Then came the standout kingfish tart with lemon myrtle, kelp, and samphire — so fresh and citrusy with that gorgeous sashimi texture. Another personal favourite was the kangaroo tartare — creamy, perfectly seasoned, and served on nori, which gave it this unexpected but delicious Japanese twist.
Other highlights:
– Leeks in paperbark with finger lime (surprisingly incredible)
– Pork neck (so beautifully presented with edible flowers and melt-in-your-mouth texture)
– Beef rib with Davidson plum, Warragul greens and horseradish (perfectly cooked, the plum gave it such a rich tang)
– Cannelloni/chicken liver tart (more like a parfait in a tart shell for the GF version — rich and smooth, super tasty)
The whole menu is just full of interesting, native Aussie ingredients handled with real care. Everything looked stunning and tasted even better.
Service was spot-on — warm, relaxed, and helpful without being overbearing. The vibe is fancy but not pretentious. You can dress up or down, and the open kitchen adds a lovely energy to the room. Honestly, couldn’t fault a single thing.
Would 100% go back — especially for anyone with dietary needs. It’s rare to find somewhere this beautiful and thoughtful with food, service, and atmosphere all hitting the mark
