Before placing my doordash order I called ahead to see if mjadra could be made to order without wheat (I'm gluten sensitive). She said yes, and she told me the rice pilaf was made with rice and almonds (though I was skeptical that it would be truly gluten free, so I wrote a note asking for plain rice in the instructions). Unfortunately this was not the case, but I received a call from someone presumably higher up telling me they couldn't make it how I wanted, which I really appreciate. The mjadra was already mixed with wheat, and the rice pilaf had noodles, he said. They couldn't cancel the doordash order, so I asked for koshery, which the first lady said was just rice, lentils, and onions with tomato sauce. I asked the man if he could make me that instead and confirmed with him that it was plain rice. I also asked for no tomato, and a side of grilled vegetables with this dish. The vegetables were great, and my dish came with no tomato, but there were many noodles on top of the rice. I ate it because I paid $15 for it plus $5 to have it delivered, but now I regret it because I have a headache. I do think it tasted fine, but it was nothing special, so I don't even think it's worth the high price point, especially with basic macaroni and spaghetti noodles as filler. That doesn't seem authentic to me... I'm pretty familiar with arabic food. Overall I appreciate the attempt to cater to my special requests, and the food isn't bad tasting, but it fell flat. I expected more from a place that charges so much for an entree.
