La Sepia

We made a reservation and had our Christmas Day dinner here and was not disappointed, friendly staff fantastic food and they were very helpful with my gluten-free restrictions. I was just in Lisbon in May and so it was delightful to have some more Portuguese food again. I ordered the grilled salmon and prawns on a skewer and it was absolutely fantastic.

Although the restaurant has an average rating of 4 stars, we cannot confirm this experience. We were pushed to a table in the corner, which didn't seem particularly hospitable. The service was unreasonable, especially when dealing with the gluten-free diet of a child in our group. It should be made clear that celiac disease is not a voluntary dietary choice, but a serious condition that requires a strict diet - especially for children. Unfortunately, the service showed little understanding. Instead of simply providing a gluten-free option, it was repeatedly emphasized that the food would then look “not like on the menu” and “not nice”. Only when one of us made it clear did the waitress's attitude change. The food itself was okay, but nothing special. It was hard to enjoy the quality of food after struggling so much to get a child's basic needs met. It is disappointing that in a restaurant that works with food there is so little knowledge about serious allergies and the like. is present. In other cases, such as a nut allergy, careful attention is also paid to this - the same should be the case with gluten. Overall a disappointing visit and we can't understand where the good reviews are coming from.
