No frills. Previous Chef. Pros: Restaurant is run and owned by head chef. Menu is straight up brilliant Somehow execution is better If yr a Phish fan or Flaming Lips fan…..go (edit: there a ton of stuff I missed. Hot damn. Gurnee is good good.) If yr a bitter foodie ex-chef….go Walking distance/biking distance to so much fun stuff Wait till you see the inside—-here and ‘Dear Mom’ are KILLING the game. Cons: Literally nothing. Our server was a little dry and interruptive but he grew on me. Yr next to Anthroplogie and it’s a little challenging for parking—perchance Front of house hovers a bit Final thoughts: I don’t EVER give a place five stars unless they’ve earned it. Service getting 3 stars because they didn’t read notes I left on Tock when I booked. And chef came and spoke to table next to us but not to us—two people from Mississippi with expertise in southern cuisine—which was clearly apparent by what we ordered—I’d like to think. And even if not—they would have if they’d read reservation notes about cancer and glysophate sensitivity. Get on board with glysophate sensitivity not being gluten/celiac shit. Read a Pollan book. The head chef/owner here is CRAZY GOOD. His name is John Gurnee and he’s a MASTER. Unfortunately, he didn’t find out that the biggest Jay Mac, Bret Easton Ellis, Donna Tartt fan was here tonight. I think I’m coming back tomorrow. P.S. Wait till you see how good his taste in black and white is. The most beautifully overbearing dining room I’ve ever seen. The floors are worth more than equipment. I CANNOT say enough good things about what Gurnee has done here. Portland needs to take notes.

Got a reservation for 4, costed 10 per person for inside seating. The waitress, I believe her name was Alexis, was very helpful and was great at checking in on us and giving us options since one person in our group was gluten free and another one was under 21. We had the chef choice salad and the bacon wrapped dates. After we got four pizzas which was great to box up for later since they were about 2-3 serving amounts. Even though it was expensive, I would love to go back!!
