The best word I can use to describe Lazy Dog, is unironically "Lazy". The food is honestly "fancy" bar food. It may look robust and hearty, but it's slopped together, lacking a clear culinary vision, and the actual food quality is lacking.
Specifically, I ordered a Peanut Butter and Jelly burger (I had to get it without a bun because I'm GF). The quality of the beef was not that great, the ingredients were hastily "thrown on" without care, and being a Peanut Butter and Jelly burger, I expected... well peanut butter. There was a thin layer of jelly spread on but there was no peanut butter. I ended up having to order a side of it to spread on. Looking at my other friend's meals, I saw similar concepts of "lazy" dishes and, as I described above, fancy bar food.
Additionally, I can't have gluten, not celiac, and being a restaraunt serving, quote, "Global" comfort eats, I thought they'd have more options and variety. There were a total of 5 (five!) GF entrees which included a basic burger options, a steak, a chicken, a rice dish, and one more I can't remember. And they do not serve any GF bun/bread options which make for a lame burger - and no, I don't want to spend $30 on a steak.
On a positive note, the service was fine, a tad slow, the atmosphere was great, and I wasn't "severely disappointed" in my experience. I just think they ought to improve the care they give in plating entrees, provide more GF options or at least a bun, and own their menu items - if its a peanut butter and jelly burger, I want to see my peanut butter and jelly!
