We visited Lazy Dog in Garland, TX after my husband called ahead specifically asking about gluten-free options. He was assured that they had a separate fryer and that it would be safe for me, as I have celiac disease. However, when we arrived, I found that they only have a "Gluten Sensitive" menu, which clearly states:
> Lazy Dog Restaurant + Bar is not a gluten-free restaurant. The following dishes are modified to remove ingredients containing gluten. Cross contact may occur during storage, preparation or production of the menu items.
In reality, this means the food is not safe for anyone who medically requires gluten-free food — including celiacs or people with actual gluten sensitivity. Having a dedicated fryer for a few items does not make up for the risk of cross-contact elsewhere in the kitchen or storage areas.
I wish that when my husband called, they had been upfront about this. If you're simply avoiding gluten as a preference or trend, you may find options. But if you need strict gluten-free food for medical reasons, this restaurant is not safe.
Clear and honest communication on the phone would have saved us a trip and the risk.
