Lazy Dog Restaurant & Bar

We visited Lazy Dog in Garland, TX after my husband called ahead specifically asking about gluten-free options. He was assured that they had a separate fryer and that it would be safe for me, as I have celiac disease. However, when we arrived, I found that they only have a "Gluten Sensitive" menu, which clearly states: > Lazy Dog Restaurant + Bar is not a gluten-free restaurant. The following dishes are modified to remove ingredients containing gluten. Cross contact may occur during storage, preparation or production of the menu items. In reality, this means the food is not safe for anyone who medically requires gluten-free food — including celiacs or people with actual gluten sensitivity. Having a dedicated fryer for a few items does not make up for the risk of cross-contact elsewhere in the kitchen or storage areas. I wish that when my husband called, they had been upfront about this. If you're simply avoiding gluten as a preference or trend, you may find options. But if you need strict gluten-free food for medical reasons, this restaurant is not safe. Clear and honest communication on the phone would have saved us a trip and the risk.

We had a large order through DoorDash and the food was delicious. The food was delivered fresh, warm and on time, however, the one dish that was gluten free was wrong. We made a call and the owner/manager (I believe he was an owner manager) was so kind. This man made sure this meal was prepared correctly, prepared a free gluten free dessert & a regular dessert AND then delivered the corrected single dish himself!!!!! It has been MANY years since I’ve seen customer service like this! This man went above and beyond. I explained to him that we were in town for a bachelorette weekend & had a few cocktails and was not able to drive and he didn’t care, he said he was going to bring it to us regardless. He never used one hateful tone. Never argued. Never became accusatory that we were lying or anything….. he was simply amazing!!! Top notch!!! THANK YOU isn’t enough!!!

You are probably better off going to spend money somewhere else. Waited 15 for anyone to say hi to us, another 10 to get water and drinks. I understand it’s new, and for that very reason, I believe they should be ready to accommodate guests. I really wanted to like it, but it was unfortunate and we will probably not be back. Family ordered hamburger and sweet and spicy chicken both were less than ok, overpriced and not very tasty. I ordered steak becuase gluten free options are slim, and thought what could go wrong with steak, right? Well, it was interesting and had a weird smell, I had to ask for steak sauce to make it through. Surprised at how many good reviews it had and how bad it was. Avoided posting fotos, because it looks good even though it tastes bad.
