I visited Libby’s yesterday as I was passing through London. I’ve been before as it is exciting to find a gf bakery that does pastries. I’ve definitely tasted far better pastries in Paris and Montreal but in London I’m happy to settle for a dry Libby’s croissant as it’s the best I can get. However, yesterday when I was waiting to buy a croissant I watched the staff members give away the last 4 or 5 croissants for free to the girls in front of me in the queue who didn’t even ask for them. They appeared to be friends with these girls. I was very clearly waiting behind and they didn’t ask me if I wanted one and I would have paid?!? I think this will be my last trip to Libby’s as the products really aren’t good and now the service is lacking too. Honestly I feel like this cafe exploits gluten free people as they are one of only a few gf bakeries in the uk - they charge significant amounts for baked goods that they make no effort at recipe development or even making products taste at all like ‘the real thing’. Gluten free people should be able to get delicious fresh products too without having to settle.
