We went when they first opened, expecting there to be some wrinkles in service and food quality. The service actually was fine, with multiple people checking on us, even though things were hectic. If it were an established restaurant with months of experience I would probably rate the service as four stars, but for the newly opened environment, they exceeded my expectations. So did the food, and so if they did a good job when in the frenzy of just opening, I know as they smooth out they'll be able to keep up the quality.
I had the Banh Mi salad with shrimp added, and others at my table had the gumbo, prime rib debris po'boy, and shrimp po'boy. I enjoyed that they knew enough about the Vietnamese influence in French Cajun food to include it in the menu. I like that even at a Cajun place full of fried food there were gluten free options for me. Everything was fresh.
The drinks were amazing. I had the non-alcoholic banana creme, and it was as decadent as any dessert I've had. My table mates had the sampler and then 3-4 of the full size drinks.
One of my favorite things is how they repurposed an old gas service station. The section where you used to pull your car in for oil changes is still called "garage" and is a dining room. There's an outside patio under the gas pump overhang. Where the gas station register was is the host stand, with a row of hooks to hang rags like mechanics would use. It's definitely not like the generic "every new place looks the same" vibe we get a lot in Austin.
