I found Locanda San Martino online, doing a Google search for inns and taverns on Lake Como.
I was looking for a place at high altitude, where I could sit, eat something local and admire the splendor of Lake Como.
I booked with WhatsApp at around 11pm and shortly after, I was immediately contacted by the owner (Paola) confirming my booking (I didn't expect to receive a confirmation before the next day, but Mrs. Paola is on the ball!).
We arrived the next day at 12.45pm, in this little village, suspended in time. Spectacular lake view. The Inn itself is small, capable of hosting less than 30 people, but the welcome from Paola and her husband made us feel at home.
The menu is small, not many things, but done well, also because there were only two of them doing everything...very good.
Despite the many things to do and about a dozen customers to look after, Paola and her husband never missed a smile and a few chats, even in English with other customers present at the inn, still demonstrating, as if there were the need, that Italian hospitality is one of the best in the world.
Yesterday we had an Italian appetizer, a timeless classic, cured meats and cheeses... delicious.
THEN we continued with tagliatelle with mushrooms and chopped hazelnuts, equally good; By the way, my wife is gluten intolerant and Mrs. Paola opted for a gluten free pasta (Rummo brand), thanks to which my wife was able to enjoy the dish like me.
Small wine list, not very pretentious, but very appropriate for the place where we stopped.
I loved the passion with which Paola and her husband do this job, the effort, the sacrifice of doing something that pleases and gives satisfaction.
A heartfelt thank you to both of you for giving us such a regenerating lunch for us, after a summer of work.
We will definitely be back next time, as long as Paola tells us her husband's name ;D.
GO THERE!
