We were in town for a couple days and my partner came home with an excited announcement of “I just found a Venezuelan food cart! They have patacones!” So our plans for the day were solidified.
During travels to Costa Rica we developed a deep love (an obsession even) for patacones and were excited to try the Venezuelan version.
First impressions were wonderful. The owner, Carlos, greeted us with the hugest smile and wave and explained the menu to us. You can order arepas (corn meal flatbread) or patacones, topped with a variety of meats, beans, cheese and their two amazing sauces - garlic sauce or guasacaca (avocado and cilantro sauce).
We ordered the pulled pork patacone with guasacaca and the King arepas with garlic sauce.
Both were absolutely unbelievable. So fresh, perfectly seasoned and the perfect meal. Best of all, the whole cart is gluten free, so as someone newly diagnosed gluten intolerant , i felt amazing after eating.
Can’t wait to come back. Just an amazing meal.
