A backup plan, that never the less turned out to be awesome.
For a pre-birthday dinner I was looking for some pasta, and originally I did have another location in mind, but they didn't pick up the phone so I had to fall back on plan B. Not to say that plan B is any lesser a choice, all my choices for dinner are A-tier, it just pays to have multiple choices ready in case of events like this.
This time around, because I was much further out than I am normally on my trip home, I decided to check out the new Mac & Roni restaurant that I had read about in the paper. The name of course implies exactly what to expect, and the fact they're like a Blaze or Subway but with pasta is fun!
Not sure if it was the time I showed up but the restaurant itself was pretty quite, only a couple other patrons inside, but that just meant I was first in line. Went with a build your own pasta bowl, picking the linguine, alfredo sauce, and a few toppings. Also put in for an order of the fried calamari, because I'm a sucker for good fried octopus. The total coming to a little under $30, which might seem a bit high, but you get quite the hefty bowl of pasta so overall I'd say it was fair.
Back home I just had to dive right into the calamari, it looks picturesque, and the taste matched. Crispy, savory, the sweet drizzle was a nice surprise, and the accompanying marinara sauce was perfect for dipping. Possibly the best calamari I've had in awhile. Once that was done I got into the pasta bowl itself, and boy was it filling. The noodles were cooked just right, the sauce was creamy and cheesy and rich, and my choices in toppings (roasted corn, tomatoes, roasted red pepper, sautéed onions, and a sprinkle of parmesan cheese) made for a very flavorful creation.
Overall I was very impressed with my meal and very satisfied with my dinner. So if you're in the mood for some pasta, I'd recommend Mac & Roni without a second thought. And if you're not a pasta enjoyer, then fear not, because they also have salad bowls, rice bowls, and protein bowls. Something for everyone, even the gluten free.
