We are generally big Mission fans in my house. Service is usually impeccable and the food is great quality. Plus, I have celiac disease and am always thrilled when companies have fries that are safe for me. I worked in the food service industry for many years and tend to have a lot of grace for mishaps during any meal, despite having a severe reaction to gluten. My family actually drives about 45 minutes to the Chattanooga location because we prefer everything about Mission to our local alternatives. Tonight we went into the Chattanooga location and I began my order as I usually do, that I have a severe gluten allergy. The cashier was so kind and reassured me that it would be no problem and then called back to the cook whose name was “English” that there would be a gluten allergy on this ticket. The cook proceeded to throw her head back, toss whatever was in her hands and groan loudly. It’s an open kitchen. I was standing not even 20 feet in front of her and manager was right next to her and never addressed it. My better judgement would’ve been to cancel my order and leave, but we didn’t. And we ate. It typically takes me a few hours to react if I get sick, but I was SO embarrassed and felt guilty for making her do more work just for me. I’m sure it was a long day. I get it. But I was so looking forward to a quality safe meal. The food tasted great as usual, but the mood was less than desirable this time.
