We had dinner over the weekend at Maggie Choos. We were greeted by a lovely staff member and had hopes of good things from this great interaction. Sadly it fell very short. When I said I was a celiac I was met with ‘oh excellent’ and a clap of the hands… trust me mate, it’s far from self chosen or excellent.
We chose to eat at Maggie’s because it looked awesome and the menu looked great- enough GF options to make it work for a good night out.
I was told that after confirmation from the chef I could have a piece of barramundi (which was lovely), steamed plain rice and cucumber salad… what a let down!
The other GF items weren’t a good choice as they contained gluten traces… potentially not gluten free??
The cocktails were nice. The rush out the door so they could seat more people didn’t worry us, we were headed to find some snacks to fill our appetite after a let down of a dinner (expensive dinner at that). More than happy to spend money on a decent dinner, this dinner was just missing the decent part.
If you don’t have a food allergy it may be the place for you. It just wasn’t inclusive for us and the staff were far from competent with celiac needs.
