Just had a very average food here. Paying for the name and nice venue. Food is very bland and service was friendly but rough around the edges. We also would have liked more guidance on the gluten free options as at first look the dietary menu was limited but they were able to make adjustments (ie gluten free bread)

Came here for my daughter's 21st birthday, a once in a lifetime opportunity. The food was appalling, to the extent that my wife, who in 26 years of marriage I have never known send a meal back, did it twice here due to the inedibility of the very poor quality steak. I had the lamb which was fine but a very small portion. The waiter just left mine and my daughter's meal on the table while they did my wife another meal, so that we'd eaten by the time my wife's meal was re-served. Not that it mattered because that one was inedible too. The table was literally shaking when she tried to cut it. We then got to dessert and there was not one gluten free dessert available that our daughter could eat. We took our daughter's birthday cake as the expected culmination of the celebration but we were so disheartened we asked for it back and took it home. The manager took off the price of my wife's meal, and the discretionary maximum she was allowed to take off, but that still meant that this was a £100 (for two main courses and soft drinks) for ruining a special occasion that we can never get back again. The manageress clearly has to deal with this frequently due to the very poor standard of food. Seriously, this place is serving cheap poor quality food at prime prices and trading on MPW's name, there are pubs that serve better quality food in Durham. They deserve your money much more, go somewhere else.
