I ventured back to McCleary's for the first time in a couple of years. We were staying away because we had heard some bad reviews from friends. We read some recent reviews and were pleased with what we were reading. I was excited to see that they had Gluten-Free options. We were hungry for a good burger and rueben. We were disappointed that the fries were battered but were told that we could sub another side. We though awesome and ordered the McCleary burger and a rueben with a side of Brussel sprouts and mashed potatoes. When I picked up the food, I noticed I had been up-charged for the substitution. The person taking my order never mentioned the up-charge. I am used to the unfair practice of charging more for gluten-free buns, but this went over the top. They are charging me $3.00 extra for mashed potatoes and $1.50 extra for special prep for the Brussel sprouts? WTF. I am sick and tired of having to pay more money for a health condition. Why should I have to pay more just because I can't eat the same food. Now if I was just subbing because I didn't want fries. The common line is "Oh gluten-free bread costs more". Yes it does, but does that mean you have to try and make the bigger profit off someone's medical condition. Do restaurants charge more for sweet-n-low than sugar for diabetics? Sweet-n-low costs like 10 times more than sugar. Gluten free bread does not cost 10 times more than regular bread but we are charged as such. It's time restaurants start to be more fair to we that suffer from health issues. And when there is an up-charge to let the patron know.

Sat at the bar on a Saturday during a bike ride on the trail. The bartender was very friendly and attentive. They have gluten-free bread and soup, which I needed to order. My husband said his shepherd's pie was very good.
