We were going to order gluten-free marzipan cake for our son who turned one, and therefore researched prices at various bakeries in the city. No one came close to matching Mikalsen on price, only the text on the cake cost NOK 150 extra at competitors..(!) Not only was this a cheap and nice cake, it was also the best marzipan cake we've tasted!! Bought other gluten-free products too, very good! We will go here several times :)

Most of the items we have tried are ok, the kids love the (frozen) gluten free rolls.. But this week we bought (regular) spelled bread and brownies and I thought the spelled bread was a bit dry and boring, and the brownie was definitely not a brownie but closer to a (slightly) dry little dark chocolate chip cookie - very dense - and baked 2 minutes too long. But service and knowledge is terrible. The gluten-free (GF) freezer is very messy - items are never on the right shelves. The employee has given us the wrong price twice now when we bought buttered rolls with yesterday's bread.. She has asked if we want ham and cheese on a roll (I don't think they have ham and cheese) and when I asked, "You mean ham and cheese?" Yes, ham cheese.. "Ham-and-cheese or ham cheese - so tube cheese?" Yes.. 😶 🙈 Or when I asked what type of bread the GF coarse bread was, she replied that it was coarse bread.. "Yes, but what is it made of?" It's wholemeal bread. "Is it made of oats..?" No (slightly annoyed voice) it's wholemeal bread.. "Ok..." so I didn't buy the bread. She didn't know what it was made of.. but acted like I was stupid for asking…. If she admitted (or realized) she didn't know and was polite and/or said she could ask, that would have been one thing, but I never find it a very pleasant environment. I *don't* like to pull yours, I only pull yours occasionally for the rolls. But really - if you want *really good* gluten-free goods, the trip to Klæbu Håndbakeri is definitely worth the trip. There at Klæbu they *know* customer service. Pleasant, welcoming, helpful, knowledgeable... and a small cozy cafe that is open two afternoons a week. Mikalsens - I see this bakery as just a local bakery where people who live in the neighborhood pop in on a Sunday morning to buy a fresh loaf and a school loaf or something. Not really worth the trip beyond that - in my opinion - unless you want to buy some gluten-free items.. and they have no tables - you can't eat there - everything is takeaway.
