Mikazuki Haymarket

I was able to order a gluten and dairy free meal that was edible and delicious.The waitress came out twice to double check if l would be fine with the meal that they thought would be best for me.Highly recommend and one of my new favorite eating spot in Sydney.

TL;DR Food is awesome, gluten free menu available, but not all staff understand GF protocols. GF and coeliac people, eat with caution We went to this restaurant several times during our trip in Sydney. Being gluten intolerant myself, I have to be extremely cautious with my food, making sure there’s no gluten at all or I’ll suffer from being glutened (which means I have to act a bit of a Karen sometimes unfortunately) The taste is really nice and there’s a lot of gluten free items on the menu, including rice bowls, sushi, sashimi and salads. Most experiences at the mikazuki is uneventful. My family and I enjoyed the meal. My parents like the ramen and the curry rice and I like the gluten free rice bowls and the chirashi salad. However there’s one particular night (25/10) instead of getting the regular gluten free chirashi salad (it’s normally served without the teriyaki sauce and the tempura flakes), I got the regular version of it. I politely asked the waitress if she can confirm if the salad is gluten free. She confirmed with the chef and replied to me saying it’s gluten free. I tried to explain that I don’t think the dish is safe for me to have, and told them to make me a second bowl gluten free. However, there’s still tempura flakes on the second salad. I persisted and told the waitress to tell the chef to make me a third salad without the tempura flakes. Fortunately the one we had hasn’t got any tempura flakes. I really enjoyed my food there and it’s one of the few places in Sydney where you can have authentic gluten free Japanese food in a budget when you’re cautious enough. I hope to visit again without having me to act like I’m a Karen (P.S. I’ll apologise, correct the review, and make it five stars if the tempura flakes are apparently gluten free)

The signature ramen was really good here. The broth was rich and not overly salty. The chashu was very juicy and the noodles were perfectly cooked. I found this to be the perfect amount of spice level as someone who loves spicy food. They also can cater for gluten free and had a separate gluten free menu for my partner to choose from and they also provided gluten free soy sauce with her sushi.
