We went to a celebration today. The person who booked it indicated that there were two celiacs (an adult and a child) and they said there was no problem. However, either they have forgotten that detail or it is the service they provide in these situations... We have had to request that my son have gluten-free bread and, after seeing how they put dishes in the center, all with gluten (croquettes and breaded squid), we asked if they were going to give the child anything gluten-free. They had nothing for him as starters other than his bread and Serrano ham and cheese. After that, they put a plain hamburger, without fries, to which my son's mouth was watering when he saw the others' fries. We claim it and they put some potatoes on it which, surprise, later tell us that they doubt they are contaminated with gluten. The icing on the cake was when there was a scoop of ice cream for dessert (which they checked and could contain gluten) and my son watched as everyone ate ice cream and he had no alternative.
In the case of the adult, the same thing, he has been the one who has had to ask all the time if they could put things gluten-free (for example, they have put seafood and he has had to ask for a plate with salad alone to be able to eat something, since the rest of the dishes also all had gluten).
The truth is that we have been quite disappointed, if it is said that there is no problem in serving people with celiac disease, the minimum is to have alternatives for all the dishes for them, and not have a child on top of them watching how the rest eat and he cannot. If a correct service cannot be provided, the normal thing is to indicate that there are no gluten-free options and that way we would have brought the food, avoiding the bad time that my son, especially, has had to go through.
