Mooshiro Japanese Cuisine

My partner and I were in the mood for some sushi or dim sum but ultimately chose sushi. Our usual place is under renovation so we tried Mooshiro for the first time. We had always driven by it and it does seem to have patrons in the windows so we thought it might be a good option. It is street parking so keep that in mind if you go during a no street parking time. As soon as we walked in the small dining room was really cozy and the vibe of the place felt like a high end place. I was pleasantly surprised and thought to myself the food must be great too then since the restaurant looks great. The tables had spot lights and everywhere else was dark. Super cozy. The buffet was $37 per person. The menu is incredibly small. Not many options compared to other AYCE sushi places which was disappointing since my partner doesn’t eat raw fish so he usually gets the other prepared meats/soups etc. For example he will usually have bacon wrapped asparagus, tonkatsu, grilled meats, broccoli tempura, rice bowls and they didn’t have any of that included in the steep price of the buffet. There is a section on the iPad you use to order that is add ons to your meal. Each is a different price and seems to be from their regular menu. Many things on this add on menu are included at other restaurants buffets but not here. The miso soup was so bland. I don’t think I’ve ever had miso soup so bad. It didn’t even have tofu in it. The sashimi options were limited as well. For pop it is cans only and not refillable fountain drinks. Another downside. The service on the other hand was great! The staff was super friendly. They answered any questions we had. They were super polite anytime they came to drop off new orders we had. The table beside us had a gluten intolerance and they provided a thorough explanation of what they could and could not have. Gave them gluten free soy sauce and even a card that had which pre-drizzled sauces they couldn’t have on the food they had already ordered. The washrooms were gross and neglected which sucks since they are so close to the dinning room and the door to the washroom doesn’t seem to close properly. Closest table is probably only 5 feet away from the bathroom stall. Kinda gross. Over all we can say we have been to Mooshiro and tried the food. But ultimately we will not return. For the price and the limited range of food options it’s better to go elsewhere and get your fill for the same price. I recommend Sushi Gen right down the street from here, A+ sushi on Corydon or Sushi Jet by UofM.

We come here every single time we visit Winnipeg and always have a great experience. The sushi is always great and staff are friendly. They have multiple gluten free options (sadly they don’t have a gluten free menu, something they should consider, but the chef always marks off everything that’s gluten free if asked) and they make it separately and specify which ones are gluten free when brought to the table. The ones in my image are not gluten free but the people who ate them said they’re very good too! If you are wanting gluten free you need to bring your own soy sauce.
