Moscow on the Hill

When you think of "great culinary regions of the world" Russia does not come to mind...but this restaurant has me wondering why! First off...the fact this place has a parking lot next to it for the restaurant was wonderful! There are some nice restaurants on the hill...but going to them is such a pain! The $5 parking fee was reasonable... Second, the staff was very nice...the very attractive hostess was not unfriendly but never smiled or seemed like she was happy to see customers...but it was Labor Day weekend so we thought she may not have been happy working...our server was super nice. Third...my wife has celiac disease and the menu is CLEARLY marked with GF options. (She reported no stomach issues after so big positive there) We started off with the Moscow Fries that were GREAT! For our main course she had the Cabbage Rolls and I had the Beef Stroganoff...ALL THREE were perfectly seasoned (NOT OVER SALTED AS SO MANY RESTAURANTS DO) and portion size was GREAT! My vegetables were a bit salty but not bad. The drinks were also reasonably priced and NOT "weak". For desert we figured a digestive of a vodka flight may be a good idea... Finally the restaurant itself was clean and perfectly decorated. Overall we were SUPER impressed and have added this to our list of "preferred places"! Prices were in-line and again portion sizes were very good. We will be back...but will wait till the snow is on the ground as it may just add to the experience!

We met colleagues here, as they love the food - however, they aren't huge fans of the atmosphere when the accordion player is around. I will say that the musician never played at our table, thankfully - as it was SO loud, that you need not bother for the musician to come to your actual table; you can hear him across the entire restaurant. That said, we were leaving after enjoying our supper, and he was asking for tips as we left. When we didn't give him any money (he didn't play at our table), he was both rude and verbally abusive. What an inappropriate and sour way to exit a restaurant. He was standing at the door doing this to everyone who was leaving the place. The food is fine for those who have no gluten/lactose allergies. There are literally two items on the menu that were edible for those with gluten/dairy allergies. So I ate french fries. Pass on it. It's pricey and the musician was obnoxious. He should be fired. As a musician, I cannot justify the attitude given with the skill presented. Hard pass. Buy vodka drinks elsewhere.
