A warning for my fellow celiacs! I was informed on my visit this weekend that the gluten free items are now prepared in the SAME fryer as gluten containing items. The reason I was given you may ask? “The oil is technically hot enough to burn off the gluten”. Not only is this wildly incorrect, but also extremely unsafe advice to give to someone with an autoimmune condition as serious as celiac disease. My question for whoever implemented this change- would you use the same pan you previously had a peanut containing dish in to serve someone with a peanut allergy? When we consume even small traces of gluten our immune system begins to attack our bodies. Either take allergies completely seriously, or do not boast that you have allergen protocols at all. Giving folks a false sense of security that they are having a safe meal is not okay.

Just to preface this, I never write reviews but the food was absolutely incredible. Brooke was our server and is such a beautiful human to converse with; very attentive and sweet. Today, we had the crab cakes (to DIE for), Brussel sprouts (fabulous) and I personally had a new flounder fish sandwich. They breaded the sandwich in corn meal ( for all those gluten sensitive people, this is FOR you) and the fish was cooked perfectly- flaky and most and the breading was airy and delicoussssss. This was the first time I have been but will definitely return! Sexy and quaint atmosphere, Buda's hidden little gem. Kudos to the staff and owners. You are doing an outstanding job and if today is any representation of the service and food you provide (mind you it's 13:51 on a Thursday) you will be a forever staple for south Austin. Braavvvvooo!

Today came in & ordered the calamari as brunch. We’ve ordered it many times before and most of the time it’s good but today half of it was so overcooked that it was completely hard and inedible not to mention the way that impacts flavor of what was edible. Barely ate 4 ounces of normal sized calamari slices cooked properly. Visually you could see that it was way overcooked and crumbly, I’m not sure why it would be sent out. Sadly this isn’t the first time our meal preparation accuracy and quality has been inconsistent when we’ve come in to order various items on the menu. We’ve kept trying because we are gluten free but after today it will likely be even longer before we return again.
