Last Friday night, I stumbled upon a Nepalese gem that deserves a loud, joyful shout-out. Nepal Dining Room—helmed by the ever-radiant Chef Hem Ghale—welcomed us with the kind of warmth that sets the tone for an unforgettable evening. Hem’s smile alone could convince anyone they’re in the right place.
From the moment we sat down, the feast began. We kicked off with delicate steamed momos, their pillowy folds dipped into a vibrant tomato and sesame chutney. Then came the grilled pork belly—marinated in garlic, ginger, onion, coriander, chilli and brightened with a squeeze of lime. Irresistible.
Naturally, we kept going.
Pan-fried king prawns followed, tossed with capsicum, onion, green beans, lime leaves, diced tomatoes and a splash of soy—a fragrant, colourful dance of flavours. But the night was young, and our appetites ambitious. The lamb shank—slow-cooked in a rich curry sauce with potatoes and spinach—was non-negotiable. So was the chicken thigh fillet, marinated in that magical mix of garlic, ginger, onion, coriander and chilli, served with fresh salad and a lively tomato chutney.
All of it was beautifully supported by fragrant pulao rice and soft, gluten-free wholemeal flatbread—perfect for scooping, dipping and savouring every last drop.
And because the menu begs to be shared (thank goodness), we somehow found room for dessert: Lal Mohan, those glorious evaporated-milk dumplings paired with vanilla ice cream, optionally scattered with mixed berries. A dreamy, sweet finish.
Warm service, generous spirit, unforgettable flavours. It was a delightful night out—and I’m already planning my return.
Namaste!
