We’ve been to the New York Beer a few times over the last 3 years. Unfortunately each visit is worse than the last.
The cauliflower wings, which two years ago were near indistinguishable from crispy chicken in a rich sauce, have fallen so far from grace. The batter is now undercooked, soggy, gritty and the sauce has no spice to it. It was a truly awful way to start a meal made even worse with the knowledge that it was once so much better.
My fiancé had the General Tso’s bowl, non of the vegetables were cooked contrary to what you would expect. The rice was a single unappealing ball of gluten. The chicken itself was tender, sadly the once again soggy batter and syrup masquerading as a sauce ruined it.
I ordered the deconstructed chicken pot pie.
The naming is entirely a misnomer as what I received was an unseasoned watered down potato soup with maybe a thimble’s worth of chicken, 5 peas, and a baby carrot.
Given how each visit has shown a steady decline in quality, we’d probably need to fear for our health if we were to return again. I’d highly recommend against this restaurant and instead point you toward Griffon Gastropub for a higher quality experience for the same price.
I find this really tragic as this place started out great and it feels like all the passion in the kitchen has all but moved on, and so will we.
