I was very pleased with my experience here. The ladies on shift were very helpful, but also left me to my own devices while I was browsing. I was in for stuff for sports drinks and energy gels for distance bikepacking training, and I also cook and bake frequently. I don't really go out more than once a month anymore and have more or less being doing everything I can from as scratch as I can do it. Old Fashioned Foods is a great resource for both standard ingredients that are high quality and some obscure items that are rare to find in a Brick & Mortar venue these days. I got the stuff I was looking for, which is awesome. Those recipes worked perfectly. But I also picked up some freeze dried Saskatoon Berry powder there. I created a recipe for a non-diet Saskatoon Berry gel drenched and drizzled chocolate truffle cake that is gluten-free/celiac friendly. (Pending no cross contamination on the baker's part)... It came out decadent. Make a simple syrup with the 1:1 liquid to sugar ratio. Sub half the water for earl gray tea. Add a couple whole star anise. Then a touch of tapioca starch and xanthan gum (at the store...) and flavour to taste with the freeze dried berry powder. Makes a gel that doesn't seep through the finer gluten free texture, adds moisture and works great for the drizzle. Pick your GF truffle cake and ganache recipes. They're mostly just ratio bakes anyways.

I have had Celiacs for over 25 years and when I was first told I had it there was no place else to buy anything for G. F. Items. It's unlike now where many stores have aisles dedicated to gluten-free items. However, we still shop a lot at Old Fashion Foods So we went to Old Fashion Foods and started buying Gluten free flour, spices, etc. The Store Manager and all of the staff are always very helpful.
