Old Firehall Confectionery

Please note: This is not a hate comment. I have no personal agenda against the owner or the shop, its just the service and my experience that me and my friends witnessed altogether. Just wanted to highlight falsified information by them, and the perception of them creating a premium store. This is literally the worst place in uptown Waterloo. Half the staff cannot speak fluent English, and they have made wrong orders numerous times. The cheesecake looks and tastes stale; it appears outsourced despite their claims of making it in-house. I have seen the same cheesecake at Aunty's Kitchen and D-Spot, and one of their own employees confirmed this. It's clear they do outsource their bakery items, and I witnessed an employee getting yelled at after customers saw this. Their gelato tastes more like a creamier version of ice cream, definitely not authentic gelato (which they claim to have), since they are kept in plastic containers not metal (like how original gelatos are meant to be). The croissants are frozen too, yet they claim they are fresh. Their truffles, the only items they make themselves, are very mediocre. I have seen their truffles develop a strange white layer, indicating they are very old. One of my friends specifically ordered a gluten-free cone, and the employee assured her that all their cones were gluten-free. However, my friend had a severe allergic reaction, proving otherwise. Additionally, the owners seem to have an attitude problem as mentioned by one of the employees. Overall, this place is the worst in Waterloo. I would not recommend anyone go here. I am writing this with all the facts confirmed by connections whose friends work there and personal experience as a customer.

They haven't even opened officially yet and I already plan to be a repeat customer! I came in looking for an espresso and left with a sample of a gluten free brownie, a delicious gelato and a quick tour hosted by a wonderful friendly lady. I will be back soon!
