We’ve never done a fancy sushi tasting before but heard great things about this place. We shared a sake pairing, which was a nice way to try the tastes without getting too buzzed. I must’ve been having bad sake before because I’ve never been a fan but these sakes were all delicious and came in gorgeous colored glassware too. The tasting itself was 23 courses and we added a few supplements (uni, waygu beef, Japanese pen shell). I was completely stuffed by the end, but the melon dessert was so good I will never forget it. I’ve never tried uni before and it wasn’t my fave due to the texture, but it was fun to try. All the various sushi was delicious, and I loved how we were all set up watching the chefs cook and learning a lot about the fish and the preparation technique. Chef Ricky showed us one of the raw fish and he was so excited at how fresh it was — he said look at the eye! 😂 kinda gross but cool. It was fascinating to see how wasabi root is ground to make wasabi the real way, and to see the chef painting the various sauces on rather than us dunking sushi into soy sauce. Bonus was that since the sauces were all made from scratch, there’s no gluten in them so I could eat everything even though I have celiac disease (can’t have gluten). Tip if this is your first time: they put your sushi up on plate on a little ledge and you grab it with your fingers or chopsticks. You have a mat that’s been cleaned so you can put sushi directly there too. (I had no idea till they explained that!)
