Ozaras – Columbia City’s Hidden Gem
If you're anywhere near Columbia City and haven't been to Ozaras, you're missing out on a true local treasure. Tucked away on the corner of Van Buren and Main, right across from the courthouse, this charming spot is part restaurant, part bakery, part fudgery, and part bodega — and it's all excellent.
The inside is absolutely beautiful, with a warm and welcoming atmosphere that feels thoughtfully curated. The staff? Fantastic. Every single person we interacted with was polite, pleasant, and incredibly knowledgeable about the menu. You can tell they care — not just about the food, but about the people they serve.
The food itself is something special. Everything is made from scratch with locally sourced ingredients, and it shows. My wife and son both ordered the smash burger, made to order with fresh local beef — it was juicy, flavorful, and downright solid. I went with the club sandwich on wheat, and it might be one of the best sandwiches I’ve had in a long time. The bread was out of this world — fresh, hearty, and clearly homemade. We also had the pasta salad, which was creamy and full of fresh vegetables — the perfect side.
On top of the incredible food, Ozaras offers a great selection of Boar’s Head deli meats, artisan chocolates, candies, and even house-made fudge. The bakery section alone is worth the visit, especially for those seeking gluten-free or organic options — which they have plenty of!
Whether you're looking for a cozy dinner spot or a casual lunch while strolling around town, Ozaras fits the bill. This was our first visit, but it definitely won’t be our last. More people need to be talking about this place. It’s a hidden gem that absolutely deserves the spotlight.
