Papa Turney's Old Fashion BBQ

This place is the real deal. Juicy, succulent BBQ. Simple family owned joint with heart and soul. Located at the Nashville Shores Marina. Homemade tea, lemonade, small assortment of canned soda and beer. NO WINE. They can accommodate Gluten Free, but you have to tell them no bun. They have live music Wednesday through Saturday. If you’re a musician, they have the best open jam in the area on Wednesdays and Saturday nights. You’ll find real players coming to this jam, no egos. Just heart and soul community. Mike the owner is also a great musician. Come early, it gets busy! With a nice view of the river.

Loved this place. Mr. Turney couldn't have been warmer or kinder helping me to figure out what I could eat on his menu that is gluten, soy and dairy free. My partner and I shared a combination plate of smoked pork ribs and smoked chicken wings, both of which were fall-of-the-bone fabulous. I had a double order of greens on the side while my partner had grilled cabbage and beans. We took our time, sitting on the dining porch and listening to the musical regulars jamming together, until not a scrap of food was left. We went to our stay-place happy indeed. Next time we're back in Nashville, we'll be back at Papa Tuney's - I promised my partner I'd buy him a slice of the pecan pie and a t-shirt at the very least!
