We’ve been coming to Oak Island for over 18 years. One of the challenges we have every time we come here is being able to watch a sunset on the beach around 8PM and then still having enough time to get a sit-down meal at a restaurant where the kitchen is still open and serving the full menu in their restaurant - not in the bar area.
So, we were excited to learn that Paul’s was a new option for us. The menu and reviews looked good and the restaurant appeared to have some good gluten free options.
We arrived at 9PM at a time when there was plenty of seating available in the restaurant. However, we were told that we couldn’t sit there and needed to check in with the hostess which we did. She advised us that we couldn’t be seated in the restaurant area at that time because the kitchen was behind on their orders.
After waiting for 45 minutes, she called us up to be seated and advised us that the restaurant area was now closed and we would have to sit at a table in the noisy bar area at a table that had been vacant the entire time that we were waiting.
She never told us when we signed in that we were waiting to be seated in the bar area with a lot of noise and high-volume television sets and not in the dining area of the restaurant which is the main reason we came here. Not disclosing this when we signed in was in our opinion misleading so we decided to leave.
If you’re a customer thinking of Paul’s of Oak Island as a restaurant and sports bar, think of it as only a sports bar after 9PM.
