Pelican Inn

Terrible let down for my surprise 60th. My children had kindly organized a pre ordered Sunday dinner meal for me and my family of 10 others. Mine was a gluten free meal and when it came it was the size fit for a small child. One tiny slice of pork, no apple sauce. 3 small potatoes, 3 carrot sticks, 3 bits of parsnip and 3 green beans, all under cooked to the post of being inedible to the older members of the group. The staff cleared away the mains and left us with a dessert menu. There was nothing listed on it for the two gluten free members of the family which caused the others to feel awkward, so they All decided against a pudding, (not that the waitress ever came back to take our order anyway ) We went over to the desk asked for the birthday cake to be brought out which my daughter had provided. We cut the cake and as no one had anything else to eat or drink the celebration was bought to an abrupt end. We paid our bill but was asked three or four times if we would pay a service charge, we declined as the service had been bad we hadn’t even been asked if we required more drinks, coffees or helped with our dessert dilemma. Even when we left we asked for the cake box back so we could transport the cake home they bought it to the table ripped to shreds and offered no other help to wrap or support the cake resulting in it tipping over on the journey home and spoiling. No one made a fuss on the day as it seemed wrong to complain when the children had done such a lovely thing for me but afterwards every single member of our party said how dissatisfied they had been with their meal. It was totally inadequate and not worth the money. Two families had to make something else to eat when they got home because they were still hungry.

Not at all good. I have eaten here a few times in the last year & been happy. However, on Monday 11th of December, the two young staff were hopeless. I am a celiac & also have a dairy intolerance. This has not been a problem before. So, I assumed this would be the case on this visit. I was wrong. They appeared unable or afraid to ask the chef about ingredients & were utterly unhelpful. The coffee machine was being cleaned so my friends could not have coffee.
