I know I can’t expect fully authentic Vietnamese pho here, but I had hoped for a bit more flavour. It is possible that some adjustments were made to the recipes due to our allergies (gluten and shellfish), but I have had pho at other places where the flavours came through much more. The chicken pho, unfortunately, tasted more like a very plain chicken noodle soup. The herbs served alongside it were missing fresh basil, which I would have expected; instead, I was given sprigs of mint. The peanut sauce served with the summer rolls also fell a little flat, tasting more like watered-down supermarket peanut butter than a proper dipping sauce.
The staff looking after us during the meal were attentive, checking in regularly to see if we needed anything. The atmosphere overall felt quite similar to a food court, but that was clear from the outset and not unexpected.
